Daniel Sullivan is one of the leading stage directors in the United States today, recently winning the Tony Award for his Broadway production of Proof. He has received four other Tony Award nominations for Morning's at Seven, The Heidi Chronicles, Conversations with My Father,and The Sisters Rosensweig. From 1981 to 1997, he was artistic director of the Seattle Repertory Company, where he premiered plays by Herb Gardner, Wendy Wasserstein, Jon Robin Baitz, Neil Simon, Arthur Miller, and many others. In 1990 he accepted the regional theatre Tony Award for Seattle Rep's contribution to new play development. Sullivan has directed the recent Broadway productions of Ah, Wilderness! and A Moon for the Misbegotten as well as the off-Broadway premieres of Proof, Spinning into Butter, and Ten Unknowns. Sullivan won the Drama League's Hansen Award for his direction of A Moon for the Misbegotten and the Outer Critics Outstanding Director of a Play Award for both A Moon for the Misbegotten and Dinner with Friends. For the past two years, Sullivan has directed the Pulitzer Prize winning plays (Dinner with Friends, 2000 and Proof, 2001).
